The decade of the 2000's was a great decade for college football. Let's look back at the best of the last decade. Over the rest of Janurary, I will look at the best games, teams, and players. First let's look back at the best teams of the last decade.

1. 05 Texas team
This team was led by future NFL star Vince Young who led Texas to a huge upset at the National Title game against the powerful USC Trojans. This team went undefeated and in my book, is the best team of the last decade.

2. 01 Miami team
This team was packed with future NFL stars like Ed Reed, Andre Johnson,  Jeremy Shockey and Clinton Portis. This team won the 2001 National Championship and almost repeated the next year.

3. 04 Auburn team
This team was jipped out of a National Championship chance and ended up in the Sugar Bowl where they beat Virgina Tech and went undefeated. This team had future NFL stars like Tampa Bay HB Carnell "Cadillac" Williams, Dolphins HB Ronnie Brown and Redskins QB Jason Campbell. These were in my opinion the best teams of the decade.

Last Tuesday Bobby Bowden made the decision to retire. After meeting with FSU president T.K. Wetherell Bowden had two choices. The choices were to retire from football or return as an assistant coach. Bowden decided to retire from college football after coaching three teams for 43 years. He is also second all-time in career wins. Many FSU fans were disappointed that Bobby Bowden retired. But I think that was a good decision. Bobby has been a very offensive minded coach this year but has lacked on the defensive side. Along with him longtime defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews retired. Bowden was just a little to old to be coaching. I am a big fan of Bobby Bowden but I think FSU's decision to ask him to retire was a good move. After FSU plays WVU in the Gator Bowl Jimbo Fisher will be named the FSU head coach. Jimbo Fisher already made fired some people and hired some people as head coach. He fired Running Back Coach Dexter Carter and Linebacker Coach Chuck Amano. Two people Bowden had hired himself and had done a great job. I hope that Bobby Bowden will be remembered as one of the greatest coaches of all time.

After injuring his shoulder trying to make a tackle vs Clemson, Christian Ponder announced that he would have season ending surgery. Well that meant that redshirt freshman EJ Manuel would have to fill in for the injured Ponder. Manuel, who was the second most recruited QB in 2007 (Terrelle Pryor was number one) committed to Florida State in 2008. FSU offensive coordinator and coach in waiting Jimbo Fisher had said "He is one of the most talented freshman I have ever seen". Still Fisher and FSU fans expect more of Manuel. Although he had a very impressive start vs ACC rival Wake Forest passing for a TD and rushing for a TD, he and Fisher expect more of him."I still expect expect more" said Manuel" I want to be good at what I do". Manuel will have alot of pressure on him when they face Maryland, because if they win, they've pretty much guaranteed a bowl game but if they lose, they have to beat the gators to go to a bowl. They should win at seniors day in Tallahassee and Manuel should have a heck of a game.

After losing a hard fought game vs USF last saturday, many think Florida State will not even make a bowl game. Well we will find out on Saturday when they play Boston College in Massachusetts. If the noles can notch out a victory against another ACC foe, than before Bobby retires, either this season or the next one, he may have another crystal ball in his office. If FSU can play BC the way they played BYU,than the Seminoles will be right back in the thick of things in the ACC and the gators better watch their backs when it comes November.
